Access to medical and dental care is a hot topic in these tough economic times. The AAO and Illinois Society of Orthodontists want to be part of the solution. Illinois is one of five states asked by AAO to start a pilot program for providing pro bono orthodontic care to needy children in our communities.
We are pleased to announce this new dental access program in Illinois that may help people who need orthodontic care but are not able to afford it. Thanks to concerned orthodontists throughout Illinois and Illinois Society of Orthodontists, the Donated Orthodontic Services (DOS) program will provide free care to children whose families cannot afford needed orthodontic treatment. Orthodontists will be donating one or two cases per year to help some disadvantaged children. No fees will be charged to families who qualify for the program.
Requirements for participation:
- Patients must be a resident of the state of Illinois
- Prospective patients must not already be in braces or in between phases of treatment
- Patients must be between the ages of 11-18
- In general, families must be "working poor" and/or Medicaid eligible
- Patients must be ineligible for orthodontic treatment through insurance or public aid, such as the All Kids program
